Kanji represents concepts, and I tried to think and treat them not as characters but as symbols of concepts.

I made this piece during my Artist-in-Residence, and the location was in the mountains of Japan, where there were few people but deep beautiful darkness. Traditional Japanese items such as Japanese cuisine, lacquerware and art objects including calligraphy have been made on the basis of looking at them by candlelight in dark rooms.

As the opposite of white cube galleries with electricity, I used an old renovated house, bamboo and Japanese candles.
