Artist Statement

I am interested in the intersection of calligraphy and fine art. I have deconstructed and reconstructed calligraphic expression, incorporating various art forms and concepts into calligraphy to expand its discipline.

My artistic practice started with traditional calligraphy paper and its own ink. I then incorporate art forms and concepts into calligraphy, such as site-specific installation, overlapping elements, the act of writing, and the connection between writing and time. I have created works that serve as a bridge or gradient between the two fields.

After that, I started interpreting calligraphy concepts widely with different materials. Initially, these were watercolour paper with foil, a plate of glass with pure gold powder, and then the digital medium. Primarily, this shift was due to the pandemic; however, eventually it became my main medium. Recently, I use 2D and 3D softwares, as well as p5.js for creative coding. These digital works are still included with handwriting lines on paper, then add several effects and/or animations.

In summary, I am eager to update the calligraphy interpretation and see a new horizon.
