Artist Statement
I am interested in the intersection of calligraphy and fine art. I have deconstructed and reconstructed traditional calligraphic expression, incorporating various art forms and concepts into it to expand its boundaries.
I learned traditional calligraphy in a private school with handmade paper and sumi ink. After graduating from the school and obtaining the title of grand master, my intuition led me to incorporate art forms and concepts into calligraphy, such as site-specific installation, the act of writing, and the connection between writing and time, while still using traditional materials.
After that, my interest shifted to interpreting calligraphic concepts widely with different materials. Initially, these were watercolour paper, glass plates with pure gold powder, and then digital media.
Recently, I have been using several materials more freely, to express myself, my art, driven by a desire to update the calligraphy and to see a new horizon.
